Famed poet, activist, and educator Nikki Giovanni (June 7, 1943 – December 9, 2024) lived a celebrated life, publishing numerous poetry collections, and later, after the birth of her son, works for young people. As a writer, she tackled issues of race, gender, sex, politics, and love. She urged her readers to face fear head on. Consider exploring some of her work in honor of a brilliant life led. For Banned Books Week 2024, CSW Library Ambassador Gillian '26 explored titles the CSW Library provides access to around the topic of reproductive rights, access, and justice. Books that feature this kind of information are regularly challenged in school libraries nationwide and Gillian is highlighting the importance of acknowledging our privilege to learn more deeply about a topic here at CSW.
